Through 8 games, UW’s offense is averaging over 24 first downs per game (14th in the country). That puts the Badgers in the same class as some pretty high powered offenses like Boise St (25 first downs per game), Nevada (26 first downs per game), and Oregon (27 first downs per game). Clearly the Badgers don’t rack up as many total yards or points as those teams, so how do they keep pace in first downs?
As of late, the Badgers have done an excellent job of converting on 3rd (and 4th) downs. Over the last 3 games, UW has converted an impressive 23 of 37 third and fourth down attempts (62.2%) and now ranks 8th in the country in that category at 53% on the season.
