You may have read about Jordan Taylor being left off the list of finalists for the Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award. Well yesterday, the selection committee at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame realized their error and added Taylor as an 11th finalist.
Here is a look at how he stacks up against the other 10 finalists in statistical categories relevant to point guards. (green shading indicates the player is ranked in the top 5 in a particular statistical category among the 11 players; red shading indicates the player is ranked in the bottom 6 in a statistical category)
Not only is Jordan Taylor a true Point Guard (which cannot be said for everyone on this list) and leads the nation in the statistic Bob Cousy would be most proud of (Assist to Turnover ratio) but take a look at the chart: Not a single other player has more green or less red on the chart than Jordan Taylor. In fact, it could be argued that the assists and steals per game are skewed by the fact that Wisconsin’s games average less possessions than any team in the country. One stat that adjusts for a team’s tempo is Points Per Shot. Regardless of the pace of play, this statistic measures how many total points a player gets for each time he shoots the ball. This brings into play how often a player gets to the line and incorporates FG, 3 PT, and FT accuracy.
(Ppg= points per game; Apg= Assists per game; A/TO= Assist to Turnover Ratio; STpg= Steals per game; REBpg= Rebounds per game; PPS= Points per Shot)
